Cardiff Male Choir support the White Ribbon Campaign

DSC05429

Cardiff Male Choir were just one of many male groups in Cardiff asked to support the White Ribbon Day – 25th November. The choir were asked to sign a ‘Not In My Name’ poster, organised by members of the National Federation of Women’s Institutes.

NFWI-Wales and Joyce Watson AM hosted a cross-party stakeholder event at the Senedd on 19 November to mark White Ribbon Day and discuss the importance of engaging with boys and men to eliminate male violence against women.

Prior to the event, politicians and other supporters gathered on the steps of the Senedd holding Not in my Name posters signed by male groups and organisations.  Politicians also signed a giant white ribbon as a pledge of their support.

Choir sing at Musical Director’s Wedding

Choir sing at Musical Director’s Wedding

Emma & John (153 of 403)

Only twice in the 115 year history of Cardiff Male Choir, have the choir performed at their own Musical Director’s Wedding. Sian Carlin,  the only other female director of the choir, married her fiancée in the 1980s. Sian and her fiancée wore blue jeans and rugby shirts to their wedding, Sian carrying a pineapple as she had an allergy to flowers.

On the 17th of August, 2013, the choir’s second female musical director, Emma Height, married her fiancée John Laidlaw at St Mary’s Church, Coity, Bridgend. The choir were conducted by David Harrington, and accompanied by Val Roberts and Becky Shipley. The choir performed two welsh items as the bride and groom signed the register, ‘Tydi a Roddaist’ and their latest edition to their repertoire ‘Salm 23’.

Gala Concert Success and Winter Plans for Cardiff Male Choir

Cardiff Male Choir’s Annual Gala Concert Success

The house was packed last Saturday as Cardiff Male Choir celebrated 114 years singing.

The choir sang a variety of festive music, Welsh traditional items and the odd surprise throughout the night. A special tribute was made to Dave McKean, a long serving member of the choir who passed away last year. A music stand with a plaque to commemorate his time with the choir was unveiled.

As a registered charity, Cardiff Male Choir relies on fundraising events to keep the choir going. We can then help other charities and organisations by providing our service free of charge. The total of the Gala Concert currently stands at £680 – a superb amount raised!

A HUGE thank you to all of those involved with the concert who put in so much hard work. More photos to follow shortly.
