Cardiff Male Choir conductor - Guy Harbottle

Cardiff Male Choir’s conductor is Guy Harbottle who combines his performing with conducting, singing and music teaching in south Wales. He directs choirs and teaches singing in the Junior Department of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Guy was appointed Musical Director of Cardiff Male Choir just before Christmas in 2003.

Guy began his musical training as an organist and it was in this capacity that he went to study at the Royal College of Music in London. He graduated as a singer and went on to train with the opera school there. He left the RCM with prizes in organ, recital, singing and opera and followed a career as a classical baritone performing opera, oratorio and recitals across the globe with companies including the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra, Kent Opera, European Chamber Opera, Wexford Festival Opera and Les Arts Florissants. Guy became Musical Director of Cardiff Male Choir in 2003 and since then has encouraged a broadening of the choir’s repertoire into unfamiliar territory.

In addition to conducting the Cardiff Male Choir, Guy directs the choirs of the Junior Department of the Welsh College of Music and Drama. He is also a singing teacher there and at the United World College of the Atlantic, and teaches singing and piano in various schools in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

In addition, he has given song classes in various European languages to music undergraduates studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
